Sunderland’s on-loan striker Nicklas Bendtner has said that both he and club are still confident about their prospects for the rest of the season, despite suffering a loss at the hands of Chelsea last weekend.
The 1-0 loss was especially hard on Sunderland, as they played really well against an inform Chelsea team and also created a number of decent chances. Nicklas Bendtner was guilty of missing a few chances, but performed well overall. Hence, he has said that the feeling of a loss will soon be overcome by the wins they hope to achieve in the upcoming matches.
Sunderland have been truly exceptional since the arrival of Martin O’Neill at the Stadium of Light. The former Aston Villa manager has not spent a great deal of money since arriving just before the start of the January transfer window. However, he has guided the team to five wins in their last eight matches, which were mostly achieved as a result of last gasp goals. This was something that the Sunderland team under Steve Bruce struggled to achieve, but the Martin O’Neill seems to have worked his exceptional motivational skills on the Sunderland players as well.
“We’ve lost a game, perhaps unfairly, but those things happen sometimes. If we can keep playing like we did on Saturday, then it looks really bright. We were a bit unfortunate at not getting the ball in the goal. We created some really good chances and played some good stuff, but for some reason it didn’t go our way,” Nicklas Bendtner said after the match against one of the teams looking to finish in the top four. Sunderland are currently very close towards their season objective of finishing in the Europa League places, which looked impossible during the Steve Bruce reign.
